Our Roots

“Boskoop, a tiny Venice in the Dutch countryside, where people grow up with their hands in the soil and their hearts sprouting plants.”

Born and raised in Boskoop

Water, bridges, windmills and nurseries. Lots and lots of nurseries. That’s Boskoop in a nutshell. Thanks to the natural access to water and fertile peat soil, the Boskoop area is home to hundreds of growers and nurseries. The first plant aficionados planted their seeds here more than 550 years ago, and the skills and craftsmanship have been passed down from generation to generation

It’s a family business

We’ve been growing plants at our nursery in Boskoop for six generations. That’s six generations of Schoemakers, every one of which left a mark on the soil, the plants and the business. Alex Schoemaker joined the family business determined to do things his own way. When he took the reins, he changed course, deciding to focus on one single plant: the Hydrangea paniculata. It was a risk, but one worth taking.

Today, Living Creations® is the go-to nursery for everything Hydrangea Paniculata. And we work hard every day to keep growing, evolving, and aiming for the best.

“In a town like Boskoop, growing up between the nurseries, plant fever is caught quickly. Growing up here means growers’ blood runs in your veins.”
